- The abutment is an important piece because this is where the new tooth will be attached. It allows the tooth to cover the titanium piece in the jawbone.
- The crown or artificial tooth is often the most important part of the implant to the patient as it is carefully shaped to look, feel, and function just like a real tooth. These are usually made out of porcelain because of its strength and natural looking appearance. Once healed, the prosthetic tooth will act just like a normal tooth.
What is Osseointegration?
Osseointegration is when the bone starts to fuse into and around the piece of titanium allowing it to become a firm and durable fixture for the implant. It might sound very mysterious but really it’s just part of your natural healing process.
